Kellie Caruthers is a native to Arlington, Virginia where the beauty of every season inspires her to paint. Her work consists of oils and acrylics on canvas, as well as murals that have been commissioned through her business. From an early age, it was evident that Kellie’s passion for art would take her on a multi-faceted journey of expression.
While studying Fine Art at The College of Charleston, Kellie discovered an artist outside of the University who truly inspired her to learn more about light and color. Martin Ahrens, an internationally known portrait and wildlife painter, worked with Kellie during her last year before graduating with an Art Degree in the year 2000.
After College, Kellie’s passion for all mediums led her to study photography at The Maine School of Photographic Workshops, as well as The Corcoran School of Art. That same year, her direction shifted towards her love for children, and she pursued teaching Special Education at Taylor Elementary, as well as teaching art part time at Clairmont Montessori for one year.
During the next 6 years, Kellie used walls as her canvas and started a mural painting business called “Timeless Impressions.” She studied the nature and application of glazes and textures at The Finishing School in New York, where she studied with the world renowned muralist, Sean Crosby. Kellie’s business kept her busy painting scenes in children’s rooms, dining rooms, as well as in kitchens, where families and friends could enjoy the illusion of paint in their own home. Now, Kellie is back to canvas, studying under Blanche Kirchner of Arlington, Va. Blanche, who is an established and talented portrait painter in the region, has been instructing Kellie in all subjects and mediums for the past year.
Kellie Caruthers continues her passion for art by studying under Blanche Kirchner, as well as under some of the finest artists in our area at The Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria. She is excited to branch her business into the Prince William County area, and also continues to open her schedule for teaching other aspiring artists.
